LUXLife, a British magazine specializing in quality living, selected Kouvola Liquorice as the best licorice manufacturer of 2020 in the Food & Drinks category.
I was surprised that LUXLife chose Kouvola Lakritsi among the best products in the world in the food and beverage category. This was a tribute to the quality of our products and the long history of our company. I hope that the award will also promote success in the British market, says Timo Nisula, CEO of Kouvola Lakritsi.
The winners were selected by an impartial internal panel consisting of representatives from the international business, economics, politics, media and education sectors. The facts provided by the participating products and companies in each category are carefully checked to ensure the panel can operate efficiently and reliably. The LUXLife team independently collects data from a variety of publicly available sources.
The final assessment is based on several criteria, including the longevity of the business, business growth, and potentially significant innovations and feedback received, Nisula explains.

Kouvola Liquorice's Nisula believes that the company's long history played a role in the choice. The company has been producing liquorice in Kouvola since 1945. The company's roots are even older than this, as the company was founded in Vyborg in 1906. At that time, the company manufactured soft drinks. The wartime in the 1940s also affected the company, when it did not receive enough raw materials and some of them were rationed. At that time, it was decided to switch to liquorice production.
Unlike our major competitors, we do not have the muscle to influence raw material prices. We focus on innovative products and quality, which is appreciated by the lifestyle magazine LUXLife.
Currently, Kouvola Licorice products are already sold in Italy, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Belgium, Germany and Canada.
In the future, we will also export our products to Great Britain, Japan and the United States, Nisula says.
