Licorice Boston Cake

12-14 servings:
  • 2½ dl milk
  • 25 g yeast
  • 1 dl sugar
  • 2 teaspoons cardamom
  • 7-8 dl wheat flour
  • 75 g melted butter
  • 1 -2 jars of Kouvola Licorice Licorice spread
To the surface:
  • 1 egg
  • granulated sugar
For decoration:

Put lukewarm milk in a bowl and dissolve the yeast in it. Add sugar, cardamom and wheat flour, mixing in at first. Finally, knead in the melted butter.
Sprinkle a pinch of flour on the surface and let rise in a warm place under a cloth until doubled in size.

Knead the air bubbles out of the dough and roll it into a rectangular shape using wheat flour.

Spread Kouvola's Licorice Spread on the surface. Roll into a tight roll and cut into even-sized pieces. Line a 24-26 cm diameter loose-bottomed pan with baking paper and grease the edges.

Place the buns cut side up in a baking dish and let rise for about half an hour. Brush the top with beaten egg and sprinkle with granulated sugar. Bake the Boston cake at 200 degrees on the middle rack of the oven until the top is nicely browned and the buns have risen.

Remove the sides of the pan and place the Boston cake on a serving platter. Drizzle the Liquorice or Liquorice-Tinsel Sauce over the top and garnish with licorice pieces.
